LOVELY ME
The Life of Jacqueline Susann

Lovely Me: Beyond the Valley                                             Pages 415 & 416

Jackie had given Joe E. a copy of The Love Machine, but she knew he hadn’t read it, just as he hadn’t read Valley of the Dolls, though he faked it beautifully at that Brevoort party he gave for her in 1966. She hadn’t known it at the time, but he had asked his devoted girl friend, astrologer Lynne Palmer, to read it and tell him everything about it. Ever since his gangland beating, Joe E. had great difficulty reading anything, it would take him weeks to struggle through Valley. Palmer sat with Joe E. at Toots Shor’s, telling him the plot in full detail while he waved friends away from the table and listened in fascination. She still has the book Jackie gave him, inscribed: “To Joe E., All my love — from your buddy — chum — pal — Jacqueline Susann.”
Lynne heard a lot about Jackie, from Joe E., and from her astrology client Billy Rose. She became so curious about Jackie that she tracked down her correct hour and date of birth, and prepared her chart. The follow paragraphs, edited and condensed, are derived from Palmer’s reading of Jackie’s horoscope.

Born August 20, 1918, at 7:25 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Jackie has a Leo with Pisces rising and her moon in Aquarius. Mars was her most “elevated” planet in Scorpio, so she was seen as an aggressive person. She had seven planets in “fixed” signs so she was stubborn, but she did have adaptability in her marriage house. As a Leo with four Leo planets in her chart she was “the Queen Bee” and difficult to please. Pluto is trine the Ascendant so there was happiness in her home, especially after she got fame in her career. Mars ruled her money house which made her a big spender. She could be mean and bitchy but she was generous with money, loaning it and giving it to others. She could have sex with men for money too. She kept sex and love as two separate things.
Venus rules the house of children. Her child would cost her a lot of money. She would get angry about it, loving him but resenting his being like that. She couldn’t take pride in her child which would have really bothered her. And Venus ruled her writing house, so she would have done the writing to get the money for the child. She would have wanted the child to inherit money, but there could have been battles in court. She’d battle for money, fight for the child and get published for the child. She was shocked with how much money she ended up making. Venus made her good and nice and kind to relatives, and they would have cost her a lot of money too, but her whole thing was the child much more than anything else. Being separated from her child because of an institution would have bothered her emotionally very much, although it also gave her the ability to hide away behind closed doors and do the writing she had to do. She lived too much in the emotions and was over-sensitive about the least tiny thing, but most of the time she hid it because the moon is in the 12th house.
Saturn rules her house of friends, which means that she could use people or they could use her. And the Saturn Pluto could have brought sneaky unpleasant surprises like robberies in the home. And visits to the child were always upsetting but something she felt she had to do.
Leo was Jackie’s strongest sign, her Midheaven, fame and recognition, the strongest points in her chart. Cancer is her second strongest sign, which is what made her so sensitive and so emotional. She could have done some drinking with this chart, and with the moon-Neptune opposition it would have been secret drinking behind closed doors. It was to escape from pain. But she would have been realistic and her mind would have pulled her out of it.
She could have lost a lot of friends too with this chart because she felt so sorry for herself. Underneath she was a very negative person. The moon opposition Saturn is real depression and negativity, the separation from the child, lost lovers, not trusting friends, feeling rejected and that few people love her. “Why does this have to happen to me?” She really could not understand why she was so unlucky.
